$DJIA The major U.S. stock market indexes opened higher on Tuesday.
Inflation may be on the minds of investors thanks to the release of the June consumer price index shortly before the opening bell. CPI showed a slight increase in prices compared to the month of May. Although economists forecasted the XXX% month-over-month jump, investors may be expecting inflation to persist due to tariffs.

"The tariff picture is as murky today as it was in early April, but the only thing that has changed has been the market’s reactions to the administration’s jostling," Skyler Weinand, chief investment officer at Regan Capital, wrote in an email. "We are only just beginning to see tariffs work their way through to consumer prices, and we are bracing for an additional uptick in consumer prices over the coming months."
