Everyone who sees this chart is amazed by Singapore's economic progress — it proves that an authoritarian system can be more efficient than a democratic one.
But we should also be clear-eyed: per capita data means very little in the realm of geopolitics.
The UK may be in decline, yet its voice in global affairs is clearly far louder than Singapore's.
What really matters is total scale and overall strength.
