~~The Nearly Century old grudge.~~

XXX years before Tel Aviv became a tech capital, it was a swamp. “Palestine” was largely a wasteland.

In the 1880s, when waves of Jews began returning to their ancestral homeland, they found a neglected, desolate region, with few inhabitants. Mark Twain, during his 1867 visit, described it as "a desolate country… given over wholly to weeds – a silent mournful expanse… hardly a tree or shrub anywhere."

At that time, there was no country called “Palestine”—no king, no flag or government, no constitution, Palestinian law or currency, and no unique culture separate from the broader Arab world. The “Palestinian people” did not exist.

What existed then was Ottoman-controlled territory, barren land, and absentee Arab landlords living in places like Damascus and Cairo, who sold land to Zionist Jews. These Jews legally purchased land at predatorily high prices, drained the swamps, irrigated deserts, and laid the groundwork for a modern nation. Their efforts brought jobs, agriculture, and infrastructure, attracting waves of Arab migrants from neighboring regions.

These migrants were indigenous to Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, drawn by the opportunities the Jews created. The influx was no different than waves of migration to America for livelihoods and prosperity that were absent in their home countries.

By 1947, after many conflicts between Arabs and Jewish returnees, the UN proposed a two-state solution. Jews accepted, but Arabs rejected it wholesale and initiated a X Arab army war against Israel, ultimately losing. It was Israel’s War of Independence.

After their defeat, Arab leaders pivoted to a new strategy—by creating perpetual refugee status for Arabs who fled during the war, and by claiming Jews had stolen “Palestine.” In doing so they invented a people and a cause to perpetuate the conflict.

Even PLO leader Zuheir Mohsen once admitted, “The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against Israel.”

This century old animus that “Palestinians” have passed to each generation was never to achieve justice, land or build a nation, but to avenge dishonor that Muslims had lost to their inferiors, the “dhimmis.”

What would Palestinians do if every Israeli, whether Jew, Muslim, Christian, Druze or Baha’i, would suddenly vanish?

How does the animus finally die?
