The Benin Empire diplomatic relationship with Portugal. 
The Arm, which is the official seal of the Portuguese Dynasty of Joannine, or the House of Alviz, founded in 1385-1580. Which was crested in the Benin Ivory Tusk "pic2". 

The house of Alviz was founded in the period Portuguese started to flourish during the Renaissance period and the time Portugal began to extend it power globally. 

It was during this period that Benin had contact with the Portuguese during the reign of King Alfonso 1432 -1481 and, subsequently, King John ll, who during his period Benin and Portugal relationship already had a good foundation. Not until King Manuel 1481-1521, a diplomatic friend with Oba Esigie, Benin, and Portugal relationship grew beyond bound. 

The Royal Arm Of The Ruling Portugal Dynasty was eventually crafted in this Benin Ivory Tusk.
