Copper for Solar: Building Resilient Solar Supply Chains for South Asia 🔆

ISA recently hosted a stakeholder consultation on ‘Copper for Solar’, with participation from 🇮🇳 India, 🇧🇩 Bangladesh, 🇧🇹 Bhutan, and 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka. The discussion focused on how to build sustainable, secure, and regionally integrated copper value chains to support the growing solar ambitions of the region.

🌍 Key Takeaways:
1️⃣ Recycling must go beyond copper — a holistic strategy is needed for all critical PV materials.
2️⃣ Standards for copper scrap purity are essential for use in electrical applications especially - solar 
3️⃣ Strong support for a Hub & Spoke model, encouraging intra-regional production and supply cooperation.  
4️⃣ Diversifying supply is critical — overreliance on 2–3 geographies must be avoided.

As the clean energy transition accelerates, it’s clear that material security is climate security. A circular, collaborative approach will power South Asia’s solar future. 🌞🔁⚙️
