JUST IN: Israel Allegedly Targeted Iran's President in Airstrike

Israel reportedly targeted a building in western Tehran during a high-level meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council on June 16, 2025. The strike, described as an assassination attempt, aimed to block the building’s exits, but officials escaped through an emergency route. President Masoud Pezeshkian and several others sustained minor leg injuries during the evacuation.

Iran’s Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained minor leg injuries during an Israeli airstrike in western Tehran on June 16, during a closed session of Iran’s top leadership, including the parliament speaker and judiciary chief, held in a secure government building’s basement. According to Fars, the attack involved six missiles or bombs targeting the building’s entrances and exits to block escape routes and disrupt airflow. Power was cut off, but officials escaped via a pre-planned emergency hatch. Several, including Pezeshkian, were injured while fleeing.

This report aligns with Pezeshkian’s claim in a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, where he stated: “They did try, yes… They acted accordingly, but they failed.” He attributed the attempt to Israel, not the U.S., and accused Israel of war crimes, saying: “Our commanders weren’t even on duty—they were home with their families. Killing them like that, with their children, is a war crime under international law.”
