Projects should always consider onboarding KOL's/Brand Ambassadors. Yes, you need to me mindful who you onboard but just "a great product" isn't enough.

Even some of the most successful brands have "Influencers"... Example: Rolex. 

Don't think people will just randomly go to your product/project because it's "great".
