The total procurement consists of a major defence sale agreement of a significant quantity of squadrons of the Z-10ME/P medium weight advanced attack helicopters, comprising over XX units, with an option for additional units to compete a total fleet strength of over XX in the coming years. The first batch comprised of one squadron has begun deliveries. Deliveries will continue periodically in the coming months and into the near future. The Z-10ME/P attack helicopters will replace the ageing fleet of Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters Pakistan acquired from the United States starting in the late 1980s. However, Pakistan’s Cobra attack helicopter fleet will not be retired and will be now deployed solely on counterterrorism and internal security operations primarily in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces and on the Pakistani International Borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
