Usually the English language has more lexical variance than Hebrew, but Hebrew has two words for “hostage”:

⛓️‍💥ben aruba
⛓️‍💥hatuf

One refers to a hostage held on the spot, another to a hostage snatched away. 

We have too much experience of this.
