Mancilla: We were the first union to officially endorse and rank Zohran Mamdani, and then subsequently, we became the largest union to rank him number one. And for us, it was simple. We didn’t want a politics of the present, which was corruption and selling off the city to the Trump administration, nor did we want the return of a disgraced governor now as mayor.

But it wasn’t just about who we preferred to be mayor—it was about what our issues were: the cost of living, child care, transportation, the cost of housing... And Zohran Mamdani, from the very beginning, was the candidate speaking out on those issues.
