Buhari [@Gen_Buhari_](/creator/twitter/Gen_Buhari_) on x 30.9K followers Created: 2025-07-13 21:25:14 UTC My name has an interesting story behind it. In 1983, General Mohammed Buhari led a coup in Nigeria, overthrowing President Shehu Shagari and becoming the head of state. My father, a businessman who transported goods between Ghana and Nigeria, admired the military head of state and named me after Mohammed Buhari when I was born in the late 80s in Offinso St. Patrick’s Hospital. Growing up in Offinso Aboasu Zongo, the elderly ones would call me "Soldier," which I thought was due to my energetic nature. It wasn't until 2015, when Mohammed Buhari won the Nigerian presidential election, that I learned the true story behind my name. I approached my father and asked about the connection, and he revealed that he had indeed named me after the former military ruler and politician. From then on, I embraced my namesake and even added "Gen" to my name. Rest well Baba, till we meet again.
