Good question! Beam is often criticized because a formal company was created to launch it and a “dev-tax” was applied to the mining rewards for the first five years, to pay its development. Yet, that company was quickly wind down after launch, and the dev-tax ended -as planned- in January 2024. So, what happens now? As for many projects, development now happens on a voluntary or a bounty-base. To pay it, there is still a bit of money left from the dev-tax years and that money is currently managed voluntarily by some remaining members of the original core team. Second, a DAO has been formed and the community shall make it become the main governance body for the project. Third, thanks to the efficient funding mechanism of the first few years (yes, that same one which many criticize because they assume using a dev-tax and a corporation necessarily meant a malicious intent), the Beam ecosystem is today very well developed. It already has many working DeFi and web3 tools and dApps. And it so happens that most of these dApps have coded in their smart contracts to automatically donate all their users fees to the DAO treasury. This DAO treasury is managed transparently by a smart contract, onchain, as can be seen in any Beam explorer: Lastly, an independent crowdfunding system is also being implemented to allow project proposals, even outside of the DAO scope. All in all, Beam funding mechanisms have always been well-thought, and the governance of these funds are now moving into the community’s hands. So, for me, the main question today is: Will we (the community) be up to the responsibility? Will we manage to make the DAO active and efficient? We have the tools and the infrastructure. Making Beam grow and strive is now up to us! ✊🏼🚀 XXX engagements **Related Topics** [devs](/topic/devs) [mining](/topic/mining) [applied](/topic/applied) [$beam](/topic/$beam) [coins defi](/topic/coins-defi) [coins bsc](/topic/coins-bsc) [coins gaming](/topic/coins-gaming) [Post Link](https://x.com/dbadol2000/status/1944332759415025886)
