They demonstrated how the CRISPR system, originally found in bacteria as a defense mechanism, could be repurposed to cut DNA precisely. In recognition of this groundbreaking work, they received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020. While CRISPR’s DNA-cutting ability was revolutionary, it had its limitations, notably causing unwanted breaks in DNA strands. This is where David Liu enters the scene. David Liu, is a Harvard professor and researcher at the Broad Institute who co-invented “Base Editing” in 2016. Base editing is like the upgrade of $CRSP, it offers more precise genetic changes by gently swapping out individual genetic letters, (A, T, C, G) without breaking both DNA strands. This refined technology is utilized currently utilized by $BEAM. In 2019, Liu further advanced the technology by co-inventing “Prime Editing.” Prime editing is the upgrade of $BEAM, it takes precision to the next level, like a genetic word processor, it can search, replace, insert, or delete genetic sequences without the messy, double-stranded cuts. Prime editing is the technology currently employed by $PRME. In summary: - $CRSP: Original CRISPR gene-editing tool - $BEAM: Base Editing technology - $PRME: Prime Editing technology All three technologies are CRISPR based, but David Liu’s innovations have significantly enhanced their precision and capabilities, marking a substantial upgrade from the original CRISPR method. While Liu didn’t invent CRISPR, his breakthroughs have taken gene editing to an entirely new level, unlocking unprecedented precision and possibilities. With $PRME, this technology is now on the verge of transforming medicine as we know it XXXXX engagements **Related Topics** [stocks defense](/topic/stocks-defense) [bacteria](/topic/bacteria) [genome](/topic/genome) [$prme](/topic/$prme) [doc](/topic/doc) [$crsp](/topic/$crsp) [$beam](/topic/$beam) [coins defi](/topic/coins-defi) [Post Link](https://x.com/ArkadiBaudelair/status/1944272626525819038)
