In 1981, Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas flew from Paris to London.

He met actress Jane Birkin and they talked about bags. She wanted one that could hold more stuff and drew an idea on a napkin.

Hermès made a prototype “Birkin Bag”, and it just sold for $10m at a Sotheby’s auction to a Japanese art collector (and is now the most expensive handbag a ever sold).
