With summer upon us it is the time for vacations. What’s the best vacation you’ve ever taken or want to take? Please share in the comments. I’ll go first. My husband is from Czechia (formerly Czechoslovakia). His family escaped communism in 1969. I had always wanted to see where he came from, but we never had the money, or the time, until our kids finished school. Finally, in 2018, we got our chance. We started in Prague, which was never damaged during the war. The architecture is absolutely stunning, and the city is steeped in history. Next, we took a train to Uherské Hradiště, the small town where my husband was born. His cousin met us at the station. The town was so compact we walked everywhere, even to our hotel from the station. His cousin gave us a wonderful tour, sharing the town’s rich history and taking us to the gravesites of family members. We also visited a beautiful monastery where another cousin lives as a cloistered nun. After that, we traveled to Vienna, the city where his family sought refuge for six months while waiting for the U.S. visas they had applied for. His father was eventually sponsored by a hospital in Florida, which is how they ended up in America. Retracing my husband’s journey was one of the most powerful experiences of my life. Seeing the places that shaped him made this, without a doubt, the best vacation I’ve ever had. The picture below is the Prague Castle Complex. To the side you can see the famous King Charles Bridge. 💕 My Husband’s Homeland: A Journey Through Love and Legacy.

I’ll go first.
