At the 1999 Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting, an attendee drew a distinction between the two. Being rich, she said, meant having a lot of money. Being wealthy was something deeper. Buffett didn’t argue. In fact, he agreed and took it further. He told the crowd that after a certain point, money doesn’t change much about daily life. “We eat the same food. We watch the same Super Bowl. There’s no important difference,” he said. He admitted to flying private, but outside of that, the basics of his life weren’t much different from the average college student. What really matters to Buffett isn’t money. It’s health. Time. Relationships. He said he'd gladly trade a large portion of his net worth for just a few more years doing what he loves. Buffett has lived by this philosophy. Despite his billions, he still lives in the same modest home, wears ordinary clothes, and eats simple meals. To him, real wealth is waking up every day excited about what you’re doing and who you're doing it with. That, he says, is what counts.
