Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, opened up about income inequality and the disconnect between economic data and everyday life in an interview earlier this year.

He said the real problem isn’t that the wealthiest did well, but that the bottom XX percent didn’t make progress. “You can wail at the moon. That’s not going to grow the economy,” he added.

Under Dimon’s leadership, JPMorgan has grown to XXXXXXX employees and processes $XX trillion daily. Still, he remains “cautiously pessimistic” about the economy.

Despite low unemployment and a strong stock market, he believes many Americans are angry and struggling. He pointed to issues like ineffective government and immigration as major sources of frustration.

Dimon didn’t shy away from the billionaire conversation. While acknowledging the system has flaws, he doesn’t believe success itself should be criticized.

He said if he were “king for a day,” he’d reform tax laws, though not in the ways some might expect. His focus is on growing the economy in a way that lifts everyone.

At 69, Dimon isn’t slowing down. He says he loves his job and still finds purpose in expanding access to banking and speaking out on big issues.
