Right now there are ~130M XX year olds in the world. I think we’d agree that it would be in our strategic best interest if we could get the top ~.5% of them to come here and contribute to our economy and long term dominance. If we don’t get them, they’re not going to be any less smart in their country, which means we’ve just increased our competition elsewhere by not bringing them here. No matter what, the number of insanely smart people globally will always be a higher number than the number we have in our country, so we should probably focus on finding ways to expand our education system to support both local and global talent, as opposed to arbitrary limits on the global front.
