They seem short and basic, almost too utilitarian. By contrast, $EQIX ’s data centers are works of art. I’ll leave it to the reader to guess which picture depicts IREN’s data centers… Also, when we hear the term modular, most probably think along the lines of mobile or manufactured homes. Modular sounds cheap, transient, and low-quality. How big of a surprise would it be then if the modular aspect of IREN’s data centers were its biggest strength? What if the abstract, spartan design optimally reduced costs while future-proofing the structures for inevitable data centers upgrades? As enlightened as we imagine ourselves, we still judge a book by its cover. We can’t help but associate form with function. But here are the facts: The vast majority (like 95+%) of existing data centers globally are not able to cost-effectively operate the $NVDA Blackwells and cannot be retrofitted to operate them either. But all of IREN’s data centers in Canada can. Further, all of IREN’s data centers can be retrofitted for the Rubin when necessary because every single one is modular. Isn’t that lucky? “This is the ideal male body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.” I know that’s a meme, but the point is correct. If you want to be competitive in AI/HPC, then as the cost of compute hardware declines, so too must the cost of infrastructure. So let me ask you: if you need to build XXX GW of next-gen AI/HPC data centers by 2030, which data center in the attached screenshots looks more scalable and cost-effective? I rest my case.
