Speaking at Harvard’s 2017 commencement, the Meta CEO told graduates, “Let’s face it, you accomplished something I never could,” referencing the fact that he dropped out. He recalled getting his Harvard acceptance email while playing Civilization. “I ran downstairs, got my dad, and for some reason, he filmed me opening the email. That could have been a really sad video.” He added, “Getting into Harvard is still the thing my parents are most proud of me for.” Zuckerberg also shared a story from his first computer science class, where no one talked to him. He later realized he had rushed to class with his T-shirt on inside out and backward, the tag sticking out the front. Only one student, Kang-Xing Jin, spoke to him—and the two later worked on Facebook together. Zuckerberg left Harvard in 2004 to build Facebook, which started as “TheFacebook” in his dorm. With early funding from Peter Thiel, the platform quickly expanded and evolved into one of the world’s most powerful tech companies. Now worth around $XXX billion, Zuckerberg leads Meta as it dives into AGI through its new Meta Superintelligence Labs.
