In Dubrovnik, I laid flowers at the Monument to the City’s Defenders during the 1991–1995 Homeland War.

Dubrovnik knows what shelling and resistance mean. Just like Ukraine today, Croatia then defended its land, people, and freedom.

We honored not only the sacrifice of those who stood to protect the city, but also the strength of a nation that refused to surrender.

Today, Ukraine fights the same battle — for freedom and its European future, just as the Croats once did.
