The suspects were arrested in the parking garage of the Providence Place mall, where police recovered a .25 caliber handgun. Surveillance footage shows the intended target, a man with known gang affiliations and a lengthy criminal record in Massachusetts, fleeing the gunfire and seeking refuge in a Verizon store, where employees sheltered him until police arrived. No injuries were reported. Authorities say the suspects fled the scene in a stolen vehicle before being captured by Rhode Island State Police minutes later on Route X. Both men, who are from Fall River and Pawtucket, face several felony charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a license, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. They were held on $XXXXXXX bail and are expected back in court in October. The intended target has refused to cooperate with police.
