Brussels just signaled it’s bringing out the same playbook it used to oust Poland’s conservatives:

Freeze billions in EU funds, publish a “rule of law” report... and drop the hammer ahead of national elections.

Hungary’s crime?

A judiciary Brussels doesn’t like, spending choices Brussels doesn’t approve of, and media Brussels says distorts competition (hello, Germany raids?).

Justice Commissioner Michael McGrath says it’s about “trust over fear.”
Critics say it’s blackmail with a legal accent.

Same script. Different target.
