On a 2018 earnings call, #Tesla and SpaceX CEO @elonmusk said he disagreed with one of Warren Buffett’s core investment principles.

“If your only defense against invading armies is a moat, you will not last long. What matters is the pace of innovation; that is the fundamental determinant of competitiveness.”

Or simply said:

“Moats are lame.”

Buffett responded with: "Elon may turn things upside down in some areas. I don't think he'd want to take us on in candy."

Elon responded with: "I'm starting a candy company and it's going to be amazing. I am super serious".

The question is, do you win in business by building moats and structural advantages? Or is it all about being faster now?
