The original Birkin handbag, sketched by Jane Birkin on an airsickness bag in the 1980s, sold for €8.6 million at a Sotheby’s auction in Paris.

The bid smashed the previous handbag auction record of $513,040, becoming the second-most-valuable fashion item ever sold.
