I am so grateful to be out of the cloud biz even though shock-title articles don't tell the whole story about how much the equivalent cost would be if companies ran all of their workloads on premises in their own data centers.   Cost of compute and storage upgrades, needing an entire division to manage the infra is costly plus even  in-depth studies to determine the differential is extremely complex and could cost a million or more in hiring an expert consulting firm to even give you a report on it.

It's a bunch of yuck, I worked both sides for over X decades being both a data center principle architect as well as working at @Microsoft
