There the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: ―☀ The Blessed One said: Bhikkhus, possessing X qualities, a bhikkhu is best among Devas & Humans: one who has reached the ultimate conclusion, won ultimate security from bondage, lived the ultimate spiritual life, and gained the ultimate consummation. ☀ ―☀ What three? ― X. The aggregate of virtuous behavior of one beyond training, ― X. the aggregate of concentration of one beyond training, and ― X. the aggregate of wisdom of one beyond training. Possessing these X qualities, a bhikkhu is best among Devas & Humans: one who has gained the ultimate consummation. Bhikkhus, possessing another X qualities, a bhikkhu is best among Devas & Humans: one who has gained the ultimate consummation. ☀ ―☀ What three? ― X. The wonder of psychic potency, ― X. the wonder of mind-reading, and ― X. the wonder of instruction. Possessing these X qualities, a bhikkhu is best among Devas & Humans: one who has reached the ultimate conclusion, won ultimate security from bondage, lived the ultimate spiritual life, and gained the ultimate consummation. ☀― Brahma Sanamkumara, too, spoke this verse: ― ☀The khattiya is the best among people for those whose standard is the clan, but one accomplished in true knowledge & conduct is best among Devas & Humans! ☀ ― This verse, bhikkhus, was well recited by Brahma Sanamkumara, not badly recited; it was well spoken, not badly spoken; it is beneficial, not harmful, and I approved of it. I too say thus: ― ☀The khattiya is the best among people for those whose standard is the clan, but one accomplished in true knowledge & conduct is best among Devas & Humans! ☀ ― 💥 TEXT IN IMAGE 💥 BASES FOR PSYCHIC POTENCY ― Bhikkhus, before my enlightenment, while I was just a Bodhisatta, not yet fully enlightened, I developed and cultivated five things. What five? ― X. I developed the basis for psychic potency that possesses concentration due to desire and activities of striving. ― X. I developed the basis for psychic potency that possesses concentration due to energy and activities of striving. ― X. I developed the basis for psychic potency that possesses concentration due to mind and activities of striving. ― X. I developed the basis for psychic potency that possesses concentration due to investigation and activities of striving. ― X. Enthusiasm itself was the fifth. "Because I had developed and cultivated these things with enthusiasm as the fifth, there being a suitable basis, I was capable of realizing any state realizable by direct knowledge toward which I inclined my mind. ―💥"If I wished: 'May I wield the various kinds of psychic potency: having been one, may I become many… may I exercise mastery with the body as far as the brahma world /☀ I was capable of realizing it, there being a suitable basis… "If I wished: 'May I, with the destruction of the taints, in this very life realize for myself with direct knowledge the taintless liberation of mind, liberation by wisdom, and having entered upon it, may I dwell in it ☀/ I was capable of realizing it, there being a suitable basis." ― Bases for Psychic Potency ― THE TRAINING ― Bhikkhus, there are these five setbacks in the training. What five? ― X. The destruction of life, ― X. taking what is not given, ― X. sexual misconduct, ― X. false speech, and ― X. [indulging in] liquor, wine, and intoxicants, the basis for heedlessness. ― These are the five setbacks in the training. The four bases for psychic potency are to be developed for abandoning these five setbacks in the training. What four?
