JWST just captured a baby star lit up space like a glowing lightsaber.

In a new image from the James Webb Space Telescope, a newborn star called HH 211, about XXXXX light-years away in the Perseus constellation, is blasting out fast jets of gas in opposite directions.

These jets are so powerful, they slam into space dust around them, creating bright shockwaves that scientists say look just like a lightsaber slicing through space.

The star is still forming, and it's surrounded by thick clouds of dust. We can't see it directly, but we can clearly see the chaos it’s causing.

This is one of the youngest stars we've seen this close, and it gives us a clue about how stars like our Sun started out, hot, wild, and full of energy.
