It is not my focus anymore. There are a few reasons for that: 1) The genocide in Gaza is far more important and is killing and hurting far more people. 2) The genocide in Gaza is fueling a great deal of the antisemitism we are currently experiencing. 3) The fight against antisemitism has been used in the service of the genocide to besmirch anyone who stands against it. 4) My country is committing genocide, and I initially supported it, so I believe it is my personal responsibility to stand against it. I have to atone for my part in this. For all these reasons, stopping the genocide—not fighting antisemitism—has become my focus. That doesn’t mean antisemitism isn’t real or isn’t a problem; it absolutely is. But too often, the label is misused to attack those who are speaking out for justice in Gaza, while actual antisemitism gets overlooked. I want to be clear: opposing genocide and opposing antisemitism should never be at odds. But right now, I believe the most urgent moral task is to end the violence against Palestinians.
