*TRUMP ANNOUNCES XX% TARIFF ON BRAZIL

Wow. Massive tariffs on Brazil.
5x the level from Liberation Day.

Quick thoughts here…

Brazil is the largest economy in South America. They are a key partner if the US goal is near-shoring critical industries and reinforcing the Monroe Doctrine/securing the Western hemisphere.

However, Brazil (specifically Lula) has been very clear recently that they prefer to go with China rather than the US. By announcing XX% tariffs, Trump seems to have fully accepted Lula’s position and is now sending a political message. We’ll see how Lula reacts.
