Verona Pharma $VRNA shares are up XX% today following an announcement that Merck $MRK will buy the company for about $XX billion. Here’s what to know about the deal.

– Merck will pay $XXX per American depository share for Verona, which is a premium of XX% to the company’s last close.

– This is the largest acquisition for Merck since 2021 and will expand the drugmaker’s respiratory treatments portfolio.

– The acquisition will include Verona’s treatment for COPD called Ohtuvayre. According to Merck, Ohtuvayre “has the potential to become a multibillion-dollar therapy into the mid-2030s,” the company said on an investor call.
