Possibly First Objects from Mercury Found in Sahara

Two unique meteorites have been discovered in the Sahara Desert: Northwest Africa 15915 (NWA 15915) and Ksar Ghilane XXX (KG 022). They contain almost no iron, but they do contain rare sulfides such as oldhamite and alabandite, which were previously only recorded on this planet. This makes them likely candidates for "Mercurian meteorites", which have not been found before.

Until now, scientists have not been able to reliably detect a single meteorite from Mercury or Venus. This is due to the peculiarities of their locations: Venus is surrounded by a dense atmosphere that is difficult to penetrate, and Mercury is too close to the Sun, which is why the debris most often does not reach Earth. The new samples are the first to record a full set of chemical matches.

However, questions remain. The age of the substance of NWA 15915 and KG XXX turned out to be XXX million years older than the surface of Mercury, which so far contradicts the hypothesis. Scientists admit that the meteorites may be fragments of proto-Mercury - an ancient body, part of which could have been knocked out into space during a collision with another large object at an early stage of the planet's formation.
