ASEAN Chair Urges All Myanmar Groups to Enable Elections

ASEAN chair Malaysia's Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan on Wednesday called on all parties in Myanmar to create a conducive environment for elections.

Speaking at the opening of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Mohamad added the regional bloc will continue to support a peaceful resolution to the crisis in the country. It was unclear whether he was expressing support for the election the Myanmar junta is planning for the end of the year.
