$GDX printed a nasty Fred Tam candle today—a signal often associated with a shift in sentiment or momentum exhaustion. 

The candle closed right at the confluence of the 50-day moving average and ascending trendline support, making this a critical inflection point. 

From a psychological standpoint, bulls are now on alert, as this area has previously acted as a springboard for higher prices. 

If they fail to defend this level and price breaks below, that support flips into resistance, shifting the balance of power to the bears and increasing the probability of continued downside. 

Momentum traders and swing traders alike will be watching closely for either a bullish reversal signal to confirm a pivot or a decisive break to the downside that confirms bear control.
