In 2021: Poly Network Hack - $610M (later returned) Hacker tricked cross-chain smart contracts to drain funds across Ethereum, BSC, and Polygon. What Union would do differently: Union doesn’t rely on smart contract relays. It uses cryptographic ZK proofs to verify if something really happened on another chain before accepting it. If it’s not proven, it’s not accepted. In 2022: Total chaos ➜ Ronin Bridge: $620M ➜ Wormhole Bridge: $320M Hackers used a signature bug to exploit trust-based bridge logic. Union fix: No wrapped tokens. No trust-based bridges. ZK proofs only. If it can’t be proven cryptographically, it won’t go through. ➜ BNB Bridge: $568M ➜ Nomad Bridge: $190M Misconfigured contract let users pretend to be someone else and withdraw funds. Union fix: No centralized validators. Everything verified through decentralized proofs. In 2023 ➜ Mixin Bridge: $200M ➜ Multichain: $130M Hackers got access to private keys. Union fix: No keys. No single wallet to hack.
