As to those Chinese subsidies, have you seen the level of massive subsidies that North American auto makers have received?

I just don’t mean the bankruptcy bailouts by taxpayers of GM and Stellantis, and also all the state subsidies they got. I mean things like the soon to be ended IRA program (and similar programs in Canada and Mexico), designed to catch North America up with China. These were truly massive subsidies, that legacy American auto makers said they needed to catch up. Now the US is backtracking on these programs, and handing a victory to the Chinese, as they think it’s more important to incentivize things like coal production. A giant step backwards.

Let’s not forget that America already had the technology, after all it was Tesla that showed the Chinese how to do it. Now it’s the Chinese showing legacy auto how to do it, and they want serious piece of the action in exchange.

BYD is already in Mexico. There are serious discussions about bringing them into Canada, since the USA stabbed them in the back on trade. BYD already makes busses in Canada and the USA.

Only one thing will fix the current North American situation of outdated technology and high prices. That is dropping tariffs on Chinese vehicles, and dealing with them directly to establish supply chains and manufacturing plants and new technology implementation in North America.
