Many frame Trump’s “America First“ policies as tough-guy protectionism, but there’s another read on it: what if they actually constituted, behind the blustering rhetoric and some of his bellicose actions, a full-on strategic retreat on all fronts?

In essence, what if Trump “make America great again“ was really a PR spin for the most comprehensive strategic withdrawal in American history?

In my latest article I take a systematic look at the X key fronts (military, economic, diplomacy, and technology) where great powers compete and show how what looks like chaotic policy-making actually follows a pattern of withdrawal across every domain that matters.

My conclusion: ironically, the leader who promised to make America great again may be remembered as the one who ensured the end of the American century happened on the worst possible terms.
