The Earth has a pulse — and satellites help us see it.

This excerpt from the YOU:MATTER exhibit at the National Science and Media Museum shows how everything on the planet is connected — and how space technology is making those connections visible.

Satellites track photosynthesis using the faint glow that plants emit — which helps us understand how well they’re absorbing carbon dioxide. Together with other data, like the Greenness Index, this gives scientists insight into global carbon cycles and the health of the planet.

NASA, NOAA, JPL, and other agencies use these observations to better understand and care for the Earth.
