American engineers have created a supermaterial for nuclear reactors! It is made of silicon carbide and can withstand temperatures up to 1900°C. This is six times hotter than conventional materials. The secret is the special protection of the fuel rods. They are hermetically sealed so that the radioactive fuel does not mix with water. This makes the reactors safer and more reliable.

The new rods have undergone rigorous testing. They were heated, pressed, and irradiated for XXX days — just like in a real reactor. The material remained intact! Now it will be tested in the Idaho research reactor. If everything works out, such technologies can revolutionize nuclear energy — making it safer and more efficient.
