Risks – $HCA

Even with scale and cash flow, $HCA isn’t bulletproof:

– Labor shortages → biggest cost + operational risk
– Payor mix shift → more government = lower margins
– Regulatory risk → surprise billing laws, rate caps, antitrust scrutiny
– Recession → delays elective care, hits volumes
– Nonprofit competition → can undercut on pricing

The model works best when volumes are high and payors are commercial.
Disrupt either, and the engine starts to sputter.
