Dividends are taxed more in some countires than capital gains. 
I prefer that company uses generated cash in following order:
X. reinvests in business (like $DNP.WA or $LPP.WA do)
X. does buybacks (if stock price is low)
X. pays dividents (if stock price is high)
For example I would prefer $TXT.WA  whose shares are very low do buybacks if they don't know how to invest tons of generated cash in expanding business.
