THE SAA R9.1BN CONTRIBUTION

South African Airways (SAA) has completed a stunning comeback, recently reporting its first profit since 2012 and becoming a self-sustaining force in the economy. 

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy (pictured), delivering her budget vote, hailed the airline’s R252-million profit in 2022/23 as a symbol of resilience after years of grounding and business rescue.

An Oxford Economics report shows SAA contributed R9.1-billion to GDP last year, with that figure projected to reach R32.6-billion by 2029/30. Jobs supported by SAA are also set to grow from XXXXXX to XXXXXX. 

Now flying without government guarantees, the airline is expanding its fleet and routes while eyeing strategic partners...
