Even after learning about their growing AI segment, I struggled to see how they could realistically compete in the AI cloud market. But it turns out, that’s not the point. The investment thesis is actually quite straightforward: $IREN is developing massive data centers — secured for nearly X GW of power — to most likely sign colocation contracts with cloud operators. This model is similar to what $APLD did with $CRWV. The infrastructure they are building could be worth billions of dollars within the next two years alone. With recent rumors about $CRWV's potential acquisition of $CORZ, I believe the market could soon recognize these emerging opportunities. At present, $IREN's valuation mainly reflects its highly profitable Bitcoin mining operations. However, as they approach signing contracts for their AI infrastructure sites, a rapid re-rating could be on the horizon. I admit I misunderstood the AI thesis behind this company initially, but the story is actually quite simple The main challenge is that building these data centers is highly capital-intensive, and $IREN has been significantly diluting shareholders to finance this growth.
