How the Austrian GP cemented F1 2025 as a two-horse race:

— McLaren’s commanding 1-2 finish at the Austrian Grand Prix has firmly narrowed the 2025 Drivers’ Championship to a two-man fight between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. With Red Bull’s Max Verstappen taken out on Lap 1, the papaya duo surged clear of the field, delivering their fourth 1-2 of the season in a race that showcased near-flawless tyre management and pace.

— Christian Horner acknowledged the team’s dominant advantage as Norris led Piastri to the flag, referencing how effective the MCL39’s tyre wear was throughout the race:

“The MCL39’s tyre management was so good that it allowed Piastri to make love to Norris’ exhaust.”

— Despite Verstappen’s retirement, both McLaren drivers refused to count the reigning champion out. Speaking after qualifying, Norris emphasized that the title fight isn’t settled yet:

“I don’t think we’re ever – until he’s out of the race – I don’t think we’re ever going to take Max out of the equation. It’s still a very long season. So, I think people just need to chill out a little bit.”

— Piastri agreed, reinforcing that the title remains open at this stage of the year:

“I don’t have that much to add, but I think at this point of the year, it’s still too early to rule out Max. I agree.”
