They're a leading indicator. We top after them. Also everytime $NIKKEI is above 40k i observed the BOJ doesn't like it,  bad news starts coming in. 
Periodically, markets top at EVEN whole numbers.  See $HSI hit 24k then red, DAX 24k then red. All of Europe red today.  So they lead us into it.
