I had the CIO of a larger firm trying to sell me on why “layering in some variable debt” in future deals was a savvy move given the trajectory of rates.

I asked him how his firms’ deals from 2021-2022 were performing.

Crickets.

Easy for Mr. CIO to risk other people’s money.
