Many disorders are just disowned feelings. For example, narcissists often think that EVERYONE ELSE is trying to control THEM. They do not accept their "control" level awareness. When it activates, they project it on others and attack it.

If you're around one all the time, they build up memories of YOU being bad to THEM. There's no time for a waitress to develop that impression.
