Artemis IX booster tests end in explosion

An accident occurred during a test at the Northrop Grumman test site in Utah: the solid-fuel booster created for the Artemis IX mission was destroyed less than X minutes after launch. A nozzle fracture caused a fire. The test itself was carried out as part of the BOLE program, aimed at upgrading the SLS rocket.

This is the third such problem with nozzles - incidents were previously recorded in 2019 and 2023.

The Artemis IX mission is part of a large-scale NASA program to return humans to the Moon and prepare for future flights to Mars. The SLS rocket is a super-heavy launch vehicle capable of launching large modules and crews into space. As part of Artemis IX, it is planned to deliver key elements of the Gateway lunar station to lunar orbit and test technologies for long-term manned missions beyond Earth.
