How does an elite NBA prospect lose XXX inches and millions of dollars overnight?

Just ask Ace Bailey, the Rutgers star who was all set to be a top-3 pick in Wednesday's NBA Draft.

Bailey had XX and 39-point games for the Scarlet Knights as a freshman.

He was an exciting 6'10" prospect who could nail shots from anywhere on the floor, ala Kevin Durant.

Until the NBA Combine happened.

Unfortunately, their rulers didn't agree with Rutgers, measuring him at just 6'7" and a half. Those measurements are without shoes, so naturally, it may be shorter than their listed height.

But XXX inches is headline-worthy.

Suddenly, his draft stock plummeted, from 3rd all the way down to 8th, depending on which mock draft you read.

Bleacher Report – 4th
FOX Sports – 4th
NBADraft(dot)net – 5th
SB Nation – 5th
ESPN – 6th
Sports Illustrated – 6th
The Athletic – 6th
CBS Sports – 6th
Yahoo! – 7th
USA Today – 8th

Refusing to attend personal workouts likely didn't help either, as does his shot selection and Rutgers having a losing record.

But you can only hide XXX inches for so long. And it could cost Bailey as much as $XX million.

3rd pick - $XX million
8th pick - $XX million

Hopefully, the mock drafts are wrong, but if not, there should be a lesson to be learned from it.
