China is filled with food delivery platforms despite it being an inherently low margin business:

Alibaba, ByteDance, Meituan, JD, DiDi

I believe there are X reasons for that:

(1) Food delivery is one of the keys to a SuperApp model: it brings users onto the platform, cross-sells rides, groceries, hotels and more.

(2) Building last-mile logistics becomes a moat that allows for expansion into various verticals that are much higher-margin without incremental investment.

$GRAB owning ~60% of the Food Delivery market in SEA is so overlooked.

It gives them a moat that people only begin to realise years later (primarily because the returns take time to realise too)
